The division is well equipped with automation which helps in screening for malaria, dengue fever, hemolysis and early diagnosis of sepsis.

Bleeding disorders like hemophilia and hypercoagulability states (thrombophilia) like Deep vein thrombosis can be diagnosed with help of automated Coagulometer. Individual Factors like Protein C. Protein S and Anti-Thrombin III detection with help of mixing tests facilitates this.

The division takes care to give the histopathology and cytology reports within 24 hours and in case of emergency within 3hrs.

This helps in Clinical management, especially Transplant patients. The Cryostat is a machine helpful for frozen sections (Intra-operative diagnosis). The diagnosis of any lesion is communicated within 20 minutes to the surgeon so as to plan the surgical management.

The cytology handles Gynecologic and non-Gynecologic Smears including exfoliative cytology. The division uses cytospin to concentrate the submitted fluid and correlates with the Automated Body fluid machine.

The bone Marrow smears and Bone marrow biopsy are also reported.

Immunohistochemistry for Breast cancers and for undifferentiated tumors are undertaken. Special histochemistry stains are available for detection of fungal infections, parasites, Amyloid etc.,

The Antibiotic Sensitivity pattern is run on Automated Sensitivity detector which helps in diagnosis of the rare bacterial infection and the most dreadful MRSA.

The Automated Blood culture system is a boon to patients and physicians as they can avail positive culture reports within 12 hours of growth, if any.

The division does the more complicated Interferon Testing for Tuberculosis and we have found that this test is more reliable to pickup active tuberculosis rather than Mantoux test.

The division is headed by Dr Jemima Kengsley, PhD (Micro). She has around 7 years of experience in hospital practice. He also heads HICC as Deputy Chairman and helps in Infection Control.

The division helps pre transplant testing and post transplant testing by performing the most complex test-HLA typing, Donor Specific Antibodies, Panel reactive Antibodies, Tissue Crossmatching and flow crossmatching.

The department is equipped with state of art Multiplex machine which gives high resolution allele detection which helps to have a better graft survival. MIOT Hospital is one of the early centres to own this in India.

The department also runs Tacrolimus and Cyclosporine the two most important Immunosuppressed drugs .The levels of which are important for the graft survival.

The division runs Immunofluorscence testing on sera, Renal biopsy and Skin biopsy. This division helps in detection of Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Scleroderma and other Autoimmune Diseases.

The GastroIntestinal diseases like celiac disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Autoimmune hepatitis is also detected with help of sophisitiacted Bio-Chip technology.

The Molecular Diagnostics is geared to handle Quantification of HBV, HCV, HIV, CMV, Mycobacterium and BK virus by RT-PCR method.

The lab owns a flowcytometry which facilitates detection of HLA B27, Immunophenotyping of leukemia’s, Myelomas and lymphoma, PNH, Flow crossmatch (MIOT is the only hospital where we perform-Serological tissue crossmatch, Flow crossmatch and Donor Specific Antibodies for all the Renal transplant Patients). The advantage of the technology is utilized for cancer patients also.

It plans to add FISH for facilitating detection of Tumor markers in Solid and hematological neoplasms.
